ESL (English conversation classes)

Do you need to practise your English?
Enjoy English practice, and learn about life in Australia.

St Martins ESL (English as a Second Language) classes are held in the Parish Hall and youth centre behind the church at 10am to noon on Thursdays and Fridays during State school terms.

English is taught in a friendly relaxed atmosphere with trained teachers.  Conversation is encouraged and practical lessons are taught such as visiting the doctor or speaking to the teacher at your child's school. Students are from Korea, mainland China, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, Hungary, Pakistan, Iran and Taiwan. Each student shares their cultural heritage, together with their newer experiences of living in Sydney.

Meredith Breden and her collegues, Greta Quan, Shirley Wells, Bronwyn Bevan and Wylie Tam were nominated for a community service award for their service to education by the Lion's Club of Ku ring gai on 8 August, 2012. Meredith along with the others have been coordinating and teaching ESL at St Martin's for the last 10+ years.  As Meredith retired in 2021, the classes are now conducted by Vivienne Parsons.
